MAINTENANCE WORKER III – LANDFILL
Landfill Division
Salary Range: $35,588 - $46,051
One permanent full-time position available
Hours: 10 hr. shifts; 6:45am to 4:45pm, includes some Saturdays
Under general direction, operates heavy equipment including a trash compactor, dozer, and a scraper; hauls, spreads, compacts, and covers solid waste at landfill; operates spray-on cover machine. Follows appropriate safety precautions when using compactor and other heavy equipment, ensuring safety for customers at the site. Monitors landfill operations; searches for and removes unacceptable waste such as hazardous materials. Maintains litter control of landfill, surrounding areas and access roads; mows, removes snow and performs general maintenance to grounds. Sets grade stakes and operates equipment to run grades. Performs dust control including watering roads. Builds and grades landfill maintenance roads; keeps snow removed. Orders inventory and parts; maintains records on equipment. Cleans landfill grounds and buildings, including erecting and moving backstops to catch litter. Performs daily inspection and maintenance of equipment including fluid level checks or welding or repair work, as needed. Regularly directs and assists customers unloading; provides public information about the landfill and recycling. If Landfill Operators are unavailable, loads wood chips and compost for customers. Monitors daily weather to determine if conditions require closing the landfill. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification
High school degree or equivalent and one year of experience in heavy equipment operation required. Landfill operator’s certification required within one year of hire and maintained every two years. Forklift operator certification required. Commercial driver’s license with air brakes endorsement required. This position is subject to federal commercial driver’s license testing requirements. A pre-employment drug test is required. Composting certification preferred.

RECREATION PROGRAM SUPERVISOR (AQUATICS SUPERVISOR)
PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT
$45,094-$57,200 annually
Permanent Full-time Position
Hours: 40 per week; variable days and evenings
Plans, schedules, organizes and directs aquatic programs and activities on a City-Wide basis, including maintenance supervision of the City’s indoor and outdoor swimming pools. May plan, schedule, organize and direct other programs such as winter activities, special events and recreational trips as necessary. Evaluates programs and recommends changes. Supervises the maintenance and operation of facilities and equipment needed. Recruits, selects, trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates permanent, temporary, intern and volunteer personnel; approves hire forms and time records, and administers disciplinary actions. Prepares and monitors division budget. Maintains contact with other community agencies to obtain resource information. Provides information to the general public on available recreational services. Maintains records and prepares reports; and performs other related work as required.
Education and Experience
Requires bachelor’s degree in Leisure Studies or related field from a DOE recognized accredited school and two years responsible recreation supervision experience. Previous aquatic program supervision experience highly preferred. Parks and Recreation Professional Certification and Certified Pool Operator Certification both required within one year of hire. First aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillator certification, universal precautions and blood borne pathogens within six months of hire. Applicant must possess and maintain a valid Iowa Driver’s License. A criminal background check will be completed.
