Johnson County Master Gardeners: Eric Miller, Iowa Master Naturalist

Listen to an audio podcast of this program.

Iowa Master Naturalist Eric Miller has led numerous groups on field trips that highlight the unique qualities of the Iowa prairie. As the only state that is completely tallgrass prairie, Iowa's landscape has been defined by its tall grasses and flowers.

Incorporating urban flower prairie species into the landscape will provide enjoyment for the gardener and habitat for wildlife. The challenges of incorporating native plants in your home garden will be covered. Miller notes that goldfinches, hummingbirds and butterflies will take up permanent residence in your garden if you have prairie plants.
