ICFRC: Can Youth Reduce Their Risk of Joining a Gang?

Robyn Braverman is a proven leader with more than 30 years of experience in international development. She has worked directly in a developing country context, including in Honduras, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, and Cuba, for more than 20 years. She has provided technical leadership and overall management of complex youth development and violence prevention programs in Central America and the Caribbean and is a trusted leader. Ms. Braverman has repeatedly demonstrated her ability to establish partnerships and manage successful working relationships with a range of key stakeholders, including senior government counterparts, donor representatives, private sector, and civil society partners. In the wake of Hurricane Mitch, Ms. Braverman led USAID's $20 million reconstruction efforts where she oversaw a multi-pronged approach to reduce gang-related violence and promote youth development in high-crime communities by rehabilitating schools, community institutions, health clinics, and police outposts in Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Costa Rica. In Guatemala and Honduras, she oversaw the creation of community policing programs, and built local capacity to understand the laws governing juvenile justice and child protection. In Haiti and the Dominican Republic, Ms. Braverman managed complex violence prevention portfolios. She is considered an expert in the field of youth development and violence reduction.
